Why do you want to be a teacher?
I thought of being a teacher long ago and even though I thought about it I never acted on it. After spending lots of time with my niece and nephew, and I found myself teaching them colors and counting numbers. Then, I became more involved with their studies and before I knew it they had learned their addresses. I think that it was more rewarding for me than it was for them.
Without using any names or identifying information, tell us about the worst teacher you ever had. What did this teacher do that created this feeling? What are the specific characteristics that made him/her a bad teacher for you?
I had a teacher once and he was not concerned for the well-being of the class. He was consistently late and would be so unorganized that many of the students would correct his math problems. He would give test not covered in his lectures only to discover that they and when the majority of the class failed them he acted as if he could care less.

A high school French teacher sticks out the most in my mind. I am most thankful for the advice she gave to me; remain humble and grateful for what you have rather than focus on those things you don't. For a time, I was very pessimistic about the class, but through this class she helped me to turn negative into positive. Focus on the light and not darkness as she would always say helped me turn into the positive achiever I am today!

That is wonderful that you help your niece and nephew. Maybe you have somewhat of a natural calling. I am not trying to refer to what the book call the myth of being born a teacher, but maybe you want have to work very hard to rely your message to students. With the school systems today I do believe in working at home with your children. I have twin girls and realize that it start at home. I hate that about your worse teacher. I am going to check your homepage to see if it list where you are from, sounds like we might be from the same town.
ReplyDeleteWell I didn't think about teaching a long time ago but after I began teaching at daycares I realized just how much I enjoyed it. I love to work with my own children and watching them learn new things, how quick they catch on.
ReplyDeleteIts terrible for the teacher to be late and unorganized, the mood kinda seems to set in. I have had problems with teachers giving test not covered by lectures! That really sucks you learn nothing at all!!
I like the way you put the questions and answers, good form. I feels good to be able to help someone and get to see them catch on!!
